Illi composes and delivers lyrics with a raw and unabashed eloquence, weaving together prose and poetry that draw upon his upbringing on the East Side of Chicago. An avid philanthropist and the consummate gentleman, he volunteers with inner-city schoolchildren to support positive community development. He utilizes his intellect to challenge the status quo by incorporating into his lyrics a reverence for history, a love and intricate understanding of his proud Haitian heritage, and a contagious energy that pulls fans deeply into each one of his songs. Unsurprisingly, his powerful music has garnered major accolades; Illi has been featured on BET, Thisis50.com, Revolt TV, Complex Magazine, hiphopdx.com, CBS Radio, ABC, Shade 45 Sway In The Morning and XXL Magazine. The hype machine surrounding his burgeoning career attracted veteran rap maverick Lupe Fiasco, who invited him on three separate national tours in 2015 and 2016.

“Started when i was six. Couldn’t rhymes for shit. Pixie Stick wrappers & tapes was the kit. Karaoke machine playin’ dope instrumentals. Fuck pad & pencil it was straight rhymin’ mental” – Lyrics from “Think, Spit” one of Chase Baby’s first songs written.

Moms always told me about a story, she always sourced my love and affections for music to it. She says I was 2, couldn’t read obviously, sitting there with my box of tapes and my playskool tape player that was attached to my hand at all times. In attempt to get my undivided attention, she scattered the tapes across the floor. Many of the tapes coming loose of their cases and finding themselves in far corners of the room. Without hesitation I picked up one of the naked tapes, looked at the tape, and in my mothers amazement, paired it with its associating case. I did this to EVERY tape that was scattered until they were both back in order. At the moment, it was to be known that I was no normal human being. That has not changed since I was a baby, hence the name: Chase Baby.

Jarrel began singing in church, as an adolescent, after being strongly influenced by artist like the Notorious BIG, Nas, Outkast, & Bob Marley, as well as Midwest staples like Kanye West, Common and Tech9INE. This love and influence for music never left, as Jarrel decided to expand beyond the gospel music and dedicate himself to other musical genres.

The talented MC was destined to move the Hip Hop industry with his strong voice and smooth lyrics. Now a more mature artist, Jarrel considers his music more Alternative hip-hop with a stronger story element behind it.

Jarrel has positive energy, a winner’s spirit, and a natural gift for moving crowds. His focus is on creating relevant yet timeless music and to give true Hip Hop fans what they’ve been missing. Jarrel’s sound represents the light of a black man in America, combined with being the star God created him to be.

Jarrel Young, on a euphonious revolution with his quality and cutting edge music, prepares to breathe new life into the music industry. We hope you’ll come along for the journey.
